The most important thing you can do to achieve your Goals
is to make sure that as soon as you set them, you
immediately begin to create momentum.  The most important
rules that I ever adopted to help me in achieving my Goals
were those I learned from a very successful man who taught
me to first write down the Goal, and then to never leave
the site of setting a Goal without first taking some form
of positive action towards its attainment.  -Tony Robbins

Live in this moment

Unless you have a magical time machine, you only have this moment. You cannot change the past or live in the future. The secret to being happy is finding contentment in the NOW.

If you spend time focusing on negative emotions like fear, regret, or worry, you cannot consciously create abundance in your life.

A positive mental attitude is just the start. The moment you are in is exactly as it should be. When you release fear and let things be, you open yourself up to positive experiences and feelings. Your intuition, or inner voice, knows what to do and will guide you through your life, if you simply stop the negative chatter and learn to just be. The moment you are in will take care of itself.

8 Tips on Becoming the Idea Person

Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen. - John Steinbeck

One lit bulb among many.You
know the type. They’re always thinking, always innovating, always
solving problems, always getting the boss’s attention. The idea person
is invaluable to a business because he/she discovers how to improve
processes, enhance services, and increase profitability. When you
become the idea person you secure your position in a company and
increase your chances for promotion and advancement. Use the following
8 tips to begin generating your own business-building ideas:

1. Do your research
It’s important to exercise your mind. When you research other ideas
your mind is better prepared to do the thinking required to discover
fresh, innovative ideas of your own. Get started by looking at trade
magazines, scholarly journals, and influential websites. The more you
read the more valuable resources you’ll discover.

2. Question everything
But not out loud; you’re trying to become the idea person, not the
Doubting Thomas. However, you only discover new ideas when you question
old ones. Get in the habit of assessing how ideas work and then
questioning their viability. When you ask the right questions you often
come up with great new ones.

3. Collect and review ideas regularly
As you research and question, you’ll find that new ideas come to you
more often. Collect these ideas in an idea log and review them
regularly. Like Steinbeck says, when you recognize how to best manage
your ideas, you’ll find they grow and multiply. It’s important that you
write these ideas down so you don’t loose track of them.

4. Recognize how your thought process works
Only when you recognize how your thought process works are you able to
take advantage of it. Do you think best when things are quiet or do you
need background music? Do you come up with more ideas when you’re
trying to solve a particular problem or are you a free thinker that
generates ideas without focusing on a specific issue or need?

5. Be quick to recognize problems
Generally the best ideas are solutions to current problems. Is your
company experiencing a bottleneck in production? Is customer service
lacking? Would the business benefit from enhancing or increasing
services? If you’re able to recognize and pinpoint problems you can
generate ideas that respond to current needs.

6. Set idea quota
Sometimes it helps to require yourself to generate X number of ideas
per day or week. Recognize that not all of them will be stellar, but
from those numerous ideas you will probably discover a winner or two.

7. Scrutinize before sharing
Just because you have an idea doesn’t mean you should share it. Get in
the habit of scrutinizing your own ideas before going public. Jump back
to tip #2 and question every angle of your idea. If it helps, imagine
how your coworkers and supervisors might respond. When you can
recognize weaknesses you can improve on your idea or maybe even watch
it evolve into something better.

8. Learn how to best share your ideas
You don’t want to become that annoying pest who thinks they can change
the course of the company with their brilliant ideas. Delivery is key.
How can you best share your ideas so that their value is recognized and
appreciated? Play matchmaker. Which method of delivery works best for
this particular idea? Should you email your boss, take some time in
staff meeting, or gather your department together for an informal
presentation? You’ll find that you’ll learn by doing and become more
aware of what works best for you and your employer.

Becoming the idea person can propel your career in a new and
exciting direction. Take the time to incorporate these 8 tips and
you’ll quickly notice a difference in your thinking. And within no time
you’ll notice a difference in your career.

Action and attitude

Your actions affect your attitude and your attitude drives
your actions. It can indeed be powerful to get your actions
and your attitude working consistently in the same
direction.

A small positive action can often make a big positive
difference in your outlook on life. Even something quick and
simple can shift your momentum.

In the same way, a small positive shift in your attitude can
encourage you to take action when you previously were not
inclined to do so. Just a brief empowering thought can get
you moving forward.

So if you cannot quite bring yourself to take action, at the
very least you can convince yourself to carry a more
positive attitude. After all, thinking does not require any
physical effort at all, and before long that positive
attitude will surely lead you to take action.

Or, if you find yourself resisting a positive attitude, at
the very least you can take some small beneficial action.
And you’ll be amazed at how soon that will lead to a more
positive attitude.

Whether it’s through your actions or through your attitude,
there’s always a way to introduce a more affirmative
perspective into your life. Stay focused on the positive
possibilities, and life will continue to grow more richly
rewarding.

Mind/Body/Soul:
Forget New Year’s Resolutions: You Need a Vision and a Recipe for Success

By Norma Reid

Girl working outThe
concept of “New Year’s Resolutions” seems like a tired cliché…and it is
when you think of the millions of people who make resolutions for the
new year and then forget about them weeks or even days later.  What you
really need is a vision that allows you to grow into the person you
want to be and an action plan to make it happen.

By
following the common sense strategy outlined below, you will be
empowered to achieve your goals, realize your dreams, and celebrate
your successes.

1. Choose a theme for the year, such as this is the year of courage, or follow through, or love,
and set your intentions and decisions for the new year based on your
theme. For example, if you decided this is the year of courage, you
would ask yourself, “What would a courageous person do” before making a
decision. One of your intentions might be to take a step of courage
each day.

2. Get clear on what you want.
How will achieving this goal or realizing this dream improve your life?
Why do you want to make this change? Write the reasons down, so if you
begin to falter you can read and remember. How committed are you to
achieving it? If the commitment level is low, you may want to choose
something different.

3. Once you decide
on your goal, close your eyes and imagine it is a year from now. You
have accomplished what you set out to do. How do you feel? How has your
life changed? How and where are you celebrating? Now write down your
vision of experiencing success.  Make it something like, “It is
December 31, 2008 and I am so happy and grateful that I decided to make
this year the year of courage. I accomplished all I set out for
myself.  I made those phone calls that enhanced my business, I joined
that dance class and loved it, I made some great new friends, I grew in
so many ways … It has been an incredible year.”

3.
Set up a system to keep your vision uppermost in your mind.  One
effective system is creating a success journal. Write your vision at
the front. Too often people don’t achieve their goals because they
forget about them! Use your success journal as a daily reminder.

4.
Next, look at the barriers that could get in your way and set up
strategies to overcome them. Remember your self-talk — identify what
you tell yourself that could sabotage your success and create
replacement thoughts instead. Determine the types of support that will
empower you along the way — a buddy, book, course, coach, or something
else.  Now put them in place.

5. Create
an action plan to achieve your resolutions. Take what you want to
accomplish in the year and break it down into 3-month plans. From that
create monthly, weekly and daily plans.

6.
Each morning grab your success journal, read your vision statement with
feeling and write down what step(s) you will take that day. Then each
evening write down all the steps you took. Besides being a great
reminder and motivator of what you are doing and why, it’s also a way
to celebrate your daily accomplishments.

7. If you get off track for a while, don’t beat yourself up, simply course correct and continue.

The reasons we have goals and dreams are to grow as people and enjoy the journey to a more fulfilling life… the life of our dreams
